Working together for an even better Mashpee

Mashpee is working to integrate environmental protection with developing the housing we need. Mashpee’s Housing Production Plan acknowleges the importance of flow neutral and environmentally sensitive land. Mashpee has received competitive CDBG funds to help qualified residents to make repairs to their homes

Mashpee voters have overwelmingly supported wastewater projects that, when completed will remove approximately 46% of nitrogen from Popponesset Bay and reduce phosphorus from entering Mashpee-Wakeby Pond. We are now seeking to restore the Waquoit Bay Watershed.

Mashpee voters have overwhelmingly approved wastewater projects that, when completed will remove 46% of nitrogen from Popponesset Bay

Michaela is proud to be a member of Mashpee’s Select Board. As she explains,

Mashpee has a very effective Select Board. Together we make informed decisions for the Town through open discussion and respect for differing views. We do not always agree, but we listen to each other’s perspectives to do what is best for the Town. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this positive culture over the past 3½ years.

Keeping Mashpee as an incredibly special place to live and visit requires us to thoughtfully and collaboratively address our challenges. We must find solutions to address the declining water quality in our bays, ponds, and rivers. And, we must find ways to integrate housing that is affordable to families and our workforce with environmental protection.

The informed problem solving we need begins with listening. Since I have been in office I have held monthly office hours, providing a space for all Mashpee residents to pop in informally and talk about the Mashpee issues that are important to them.

The most effective problem solving comes from understanding multiple perspectives around issues. I will continue to reach out to people who do not always agree with me to understand their perspectives and begin to build the trust necessary to work together for the town we all love.
