Why I’m running for re-election

I am running for re-election to the Mashpee Select Board this May because I want to continue to work for you to make Mashpee an even better place to live.

Mashpee has abundant natural resources, a rich history, diversity, and a small-town feel. All of us who live here understand its uniqueness and charm.

Unfortunately, several challenges threaten the qualities of Mashpee that we love so much.

1.    Declining water quality is a serious problem. It is negatively impacting our natural resources, is unhealthy for residents and, left unchecked threatens our tourist economy, which in turn has consequences for our entire economy and way of life.

2.    The Cape Cod housing crisis threatens our sense of community. We need to ensure that future development is focused on housing for long-time residents, who are struggling to afford to live here and for residents who work in Mashpee.

3.    Rampant overdevelopment threatens our small-town feel.

These three issues are interconnected. We need to tackle our water quality issues with urgency. We also need to put a check on more homes that only the very wealthy can afford. These actions will make it possible to provide more housing that meets the needs of low- and middle-income folks.

How do we do this?

We need to work together to make decisions and act based on science and research. We must communicate openly, collaborate, and problem solve to address the issues that confront us as a community. I will continue to bring these leadership skills to the Select Board. Working as a leadership team, we can work in the best interests of you, the residents of Mashpee.

I promise I will continue to give 100% to working for you.
